Supreme Court: State hasn't met duty for education | Parents & kids

Siding with a Snohomish woman who a plaintiff in the case, the Washington Supreme Court has ruled that the state isn't meeting its constitutional obligation to amply pay for basic public education.

But the court says the Legislature is on the right track with the reforms it is making. The decision issued on Thursday says the court will leave the next steps up to lawmakers.

The Legislature convenes next week for a 60-day session.

They will also need to focus on what to do about a nearly billion dollar budget shortfall.
